Poor oil/servicing is probably the main issue, i forgot to mention even though my car had fairly low miles, i am the 14th owner!. Sorry Terry, didn't mean to imply you don't look after your auto

I have noticed that the car is running smoother with MA2 oil. However, idle rpm is now sitting at about 1250rpm when the car is in "N". Idle rpm drops back to normal 850rpm when the gear is shifted into "D".
Is this normal or expected?

It's an interesting side effect of a better quality oil, ie less internal friction.
You should adjust the idle and also the kick down (which needs to be adjusted anytime you adjust the idle screw)

Yep, thats why most eco4 and eco5 diesel engines specify 5w30 synthetic oil, less resistance. Its good to see the positive effects of the corect grade oil in the Ap transmission. I still have arguments with members of other forums who have yet to see the light.
