Could this just be a blown bulb, (I've checked the fuse, No2 in the fusebox I believe, tis OK and the indicators are working)...
any common issues with brake lights with em?

Do either of the brake lights work or are they both out?
In my experience it's quite unlikely (but not impossible) that both bulbs have blown at the same time.
If it is just one side that is not working then it's likely to be a blown bulb or a bad connection inside the boot.
If both are out and the fuses look OK then I would concentrate on the brake light switch. This is mounted at the top of the brake pedal inside the car and can be a bit difficult to get at. Disconnect the two wires from the switch and connect them together. Turn on the ignition and see if the brake lights come on. If they do it's the switch that's at fault - it will either need adjusting or replacing.
If the lights do not come on you probably need to go back to the fuses. How many fuses do you have in your block? If you have only 4 it's the top one you need to check, if you have 24 fuses than it will be fuse 2.
Let us know how you get on.

Assuming a later model Mini of course. Early cars had a pressure-operated switch mounted in the engine bay on the offside, on the subframe. Diagnosis is the same, but replacement requires brake bleeding afterwards as the switch is part of the hydraulic system.

I think this is the mini she's talking about? Mines a December 96, Japanese Kensington Model, has the SPI engine.

That's good news. I'd glad it was something straightforward. Did you manage it without injury? I nearly always bash my head on the steering wheel!
