I have just found on-line a product called the Rover Mini SPi Plug and Play Typhoon ECU - which is detailed as allowing tuning of the Rover SPi system. Does anyone have any experience of this or similar products? Any info' gratefully received.

Further to my above post, has anyone any experience of changing the Lambada Sensor in their SPi Mini? The main thing I'm aiming to address is a rather high tick-over and to free up the maximum amount of available power from upgrades for example stage 3 head etc. I understand that the existing SPi ECU - although non programmable, can cope with a number of upgrades.

... ok so I hope all the faults got fixed, but for others here goes.
Plug and play ECU ... Typhoon ... the SPi is a typhoon ECU that is a Rover designation and it is plug and play, as it reads the reads the engine and the driver and outputs to suit.
Yes the SPi setup can cope with about 85bhp before it goes off the rails, in other words it cannot fuel the engine if it requires fuel for 90bhp it will "lean" off which means go weak
The high tickover on an SPi is normally down to one or more things.. leaky manifold allowing air to get in to the engine, this is not so common as the SPi injects fuel it means there is enough fuel there but it may still not get sucked into the engine correctly or in enough quantities, leaky or broken vacuum pipe to the ECU and my favourite is that the throttle cable is too tight, ie somebody has adjusted it incorrectly to try to get full pedal movement, this last one is very bad and can cause the failure of the engine.
Changing the lambda sensor is a struggle, what I do is allow it to cool to just above hand touch heat (if you have asbestos hands wait a further hour) and then spray with "duck oil" (no ducks are harmed in the making of this oil) there simply is NO substitute no matter what the salesman behind the counter tries to sell you if it isn't Duck oil it simply isn't good enough, anyway the Duck oil will soak into the threads making it easier to undo...
Also get a good lambda sensor spanner, you may have to "adjust" it a bit to get it to fit.
