Hi all. I know that the lump shares the oil with the gearbox so no Slick 50 etc but whats the vote on using Halfords Classic oil(20/50 i think). Ive heard good things about it. I know that this has probably been asked on here before but any info would be greatly appreciated(or just send me to the posts on it) Thanks

20/50 is the correct grade of oil for the age of your mini (1978). Halfords Classic is recommended and used by quite a few people, in fact I used it myself before my transmission was rebuilt. After it was rebuilt I switched to 10/40 as Martin (the chap who rebuilt it) recommends for newer models (post 1984 iirc).

Millers (in the UK) do a superb 20/50 Trans oil designed for shared eng / trans like the Mini... I've used it without any concerns in my Minis for years.

I've tried using all types of oil in my 1996 Mayfair auto. I have found 20/50 classic to be the best oil in reducing the slip that can occur with the auto' box. That said, I've found it best to let the car warm up for a while before engaging drive. My Mini is used all year round and in all conditions. The most important thing is to ensure the oil and filter is changed very frequently. Hope this helps.

My specialty is oil, and although I have not gotten my car together to try it (but soon will), technically you should look for an oil for wet-clutch motorcycles that meet JASO MA2 (not just MA). They cut disc slip considerably.
That is what I'll be putting in. Normally available in 10W-40 and 20W-50.
But insist on the MA2
