Welcome Minimark, yep auto mini,s are easy to drive, although they are definately not without their quirk,s which is why most of us on here love em. If I could give you any advice about buying one is, unless your looking for a particular old classic, try and buy as later a model as your budget can stretch. Good luck Terry.

any advice on buying one and would you recommend overhauling the gearbox as soon as iv bought it? That depends on what condition and how well it has been looked after, first thing to do if it drives all ok is to change the oil and filter. My advice is to get a very clean drain tank to drain the oil in to, then you can inspect the oil for debris etc... This will allow you and us on here to help determine if your auto has a fault or not.

Thanks guys you seem to be able to get very low milage autos at better prices than manuals and they always seem to be solid things maybe due to the fact that they havent been thrashed like a manual might have been?? I'm keeping my eyes on all the Selling sites for a low milage late as poss one and I think it's the way I'm gonna go quirky is what its all about for me the more quirk the better.

Go for a Japanese spec re-import .... not sure how it might affect the insurance but they tend to be immaculate.

Plus they tend to have aircon and less chance of tinworm!

Please note until I can purchase the MRA-Minis URL I can be contacted on martin@kmprecisionengineering.com
If you do, then check what oil they use in it, because they don't appear to have or use 10W40.

A note on low mileage auto Mini's, I have seen more low mileage auto's than higher mileage, I put this down to the oil never getting hot enough to burn away away condensation and this moisture then gets on the clutch plates (which are made from paper) and we all know what happens to paper that is soaked in water.... some older AP's had cerametallic plates, these do not fail with moisture
