I've seen various types of steadies advertised for manual transmissions, but my engine/trans assembly did not come with any lower steadies.
Is anything recommended?

I know some of the late jap import engines had a front lower steady, for the life of me I cannot see where it can be attached. Perhaps your best option is the heavy duty mount they make which goes between the thermostat housing and the left hand drive brake/cluch mount bracket. Let me know if you find somewhere to hook it up as I may copy you.

The automatic 1100/1300 from 1965 on had two steady bars on bottom to the underside and one in back of the block to the rear of the frame. If you like, I will try to find a picture of them.

Yeah, I think the mini subframe has the hole on the subframe web behind the diff.
