Hi All,
I thought I'd better say hello having bought a 1994 "L" reg Mini Mayfair automatic with 38,000 miles on the clock. The car has almost immaculate bodywork but the tickover is erratic and there is a slight slip, in the transmission, when it changes from 3rd to 4th. This doesn't happen when this gear change is done manually though. I've ordered some Motul 3000 10W/40, MA2 spec, so this may help. I'd never even driven a Mini, in 32 years of driving, until I bought this one!

Hi Ian, its good to see someone going into auto mini ownership so full-on, we generally see new owners (with new car auto issues) on here looking for that magic bullet answer. The 3rd-4th gearchange sounds like the dreaded (flare), which can be a host of different issues, from just an oil change to full gearbox rebuild. I,m sure you,ll find lots of interesting info and answers to keep you busy. We also have our resident auto guru Martin (mra), who builds, refurbs, and makes and sells the parts and tools associated. Hopefully you have a good one. Tbh the 93 gearbox is the best one to have, i have one myself . Happy days. Terry.
