Hi all With rather limited information in Australia on the A-P to gearbox there is a distinct distaste for them here regarding performance and in fact it's hard to find any information locally as they are quite rare. It seems everybody just whip some out and put in a manual. Consequently I'm I would like some information from you out there who own them as to what you have done to make them quicker .".are you satisfied with the performance?... do you have plans for the future ?...is there anything that I could do with a 50-year-old gearbox that's worth doing? In general I believe the main problem is with the torque converter, are there any solutions in the UK for this? Thanks for the input Fellas!

Hi Simon, your not on your own on this one, even in the uk you tell other mini owners that your car is an auto and they tend to cringe, tbh people generally make a concious decision to have an auto mini and now i pride myself in the fact that they are rarer and getting even more so. My everyday car is manual but just wanted something different. Stick to your guns and dont be tempted by the easy option of converting to manual. Also in uk a lot of the transmission specialist wont touch the mini box, "you,ve gotta take it to a specialist" they,d say. You can get pretty much everything for the gearbox, and Martin ( MRA ) has got hundred,s of rescued gearboxes to keep us going, he even makes discontinued parts at very good prices. He,s got me out of a pickle before. Just read through the many threads on here so when you do your build you,ll understand. We are like a close comunity, lol. Finaly some crazy people have even turbocharged auto,s, if i,d known it was possible i would have had a go before i went down my route.
