Hi there , I own a 1974 Mini which now runs a 1293 manual engine , the last owner bought the mini as a 850 auto , people keep telling me that my Mini could NOT have been a 1974 850 auto because 850 autos were NOT fitted to 1974 Minis ! ! .... My Mini is 100% a MK3 ( twin bolt front subframe ) and the last engine was 100% an 850 Auto ! ! ... can anyone shed some light on my problem ? ? ( photo taken 2014 before I bought Mini when 850 auto was still fitted ) Cheers .

I had a 74 that was supposedly a 850 auto originally. It had a 998 auto in it when I got it and I put a 1275 auto from a metro in it. Should have never sold it.

Pretty sure you could get Mini 850 auto's right up to about 1980ish?
