Just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. I found this site when searching for answers on my 1993 SPI Mini. It is a JDM Cooper model. I got my Mini last year and have been having a blast. The exhaust was rusting out so I replaced it with an RC40 straight pipe. It has Spax yellow shocks and blue springs on it. Otherwise it is all stock as far as I can tell. I have been replacing things that either break or are a good idea to replace, just trying to keep up with maintenance.
My main concern was a drive I did a few weeks ago. I started having an issue where the car wouldn't downshift or make power with the throttle open. The trip was up and over a mountain pass and I didn't want to be stuck doing 35mph. I replaced all 4 vacuum lines and the fuel trap and that mostly fixed the issue. Sometimes now it won't downshift and even if it does (or if I put it in 3rd) and if I step on the gas the motor drops in rpm instead of getting up into the power range. That made for a nervous drive up the pass but I held 50mph so I wasn't too worried. If anyone has any suggestions for what I can look at I would be grateful. I also have heard I should check the bands and make sure they are within adjustment, I haven't searched yet but if someone could steer me to a DIY I can check out for how to do that it would be awesome.
Thanks all. Glad to be here. Time for me to do some searching for info.
