Hello,
I have recently joined the auto mini register forum. I came across the forum really by chance while searching for info on the AP transmission having recently bought a 1991 Mini Mayfair 998 Auto.
Although the Mini is a recent aquisition, my experience with the AP transmission started in 1974 when I converted a Morris 1100 manual to a 1300 Auto using a factory exchange engine (8G187E gold seal) and gearbox (Mk2a with engagement control valves behind the valve chest - can't remember the part number). Most of the other donor parts came from an accident damaged Riley Elf 998 including torque converter and cover, HS4 carb, manifold and air filter box, Oil pump and pump coupling, Kick down rod, drive shaft couplings. I ran that car in that form for a couple of years and then bought a 1971 Wolseley 1300 auto which I ran for about 6 years until rust got it. The engine and gearbox from the Morris got transplanted into the Wolseley early on. Next a Mini Clubman esate manual (for about 4 months), a Spitfire IV (for 2 years - significant renovation during this time), a MG Metro manual ( for 8 years ), an Austin Metro 1.3 auto (for about 5 years - at last an oil cooler and sensible sized idler gear bearings (got through a few of those on the Wolseley 1300)), a Rover 114 Gsi, Peugeot 406 estate, Berlingo, another Berlingo XTR ( which I still have - family workhorse ) and a 1981 MGB GT LE (which I also still have - lots of renovation on that - most of it has been renewed or replaced ! ) and now the Mini with a Mk2b gearbox.
While the auto box is has remained largely the same over the years, there have been quite a few small but important changes/improvements. Much of the info in the workshop manual for the 1100/1300 is still useful as are the few tools I bought from Churchills.
I look forward to following other members experiences and providing any help/info if I can.
Best wishes to all for 2018 from Shetland.
Tony Erwood.
