Hi all, I'm trying to restore a 74 mini 1000 auto that has been sitting for 20 odd years it had 3 yes 3 layers of floor all had rusted away, boot and roof as well renewed all and its almost ready for a bit sorry lot of prep before spraying, the problem I have is when it was sitting no1 spark plug was out and the bore is well pitted, I'm try to get the toque converter off so I can get the block of, I have the puller but it just wont release Haynes book say's to undo the input gear retaining nut first but how do you stop the shaft from turning hope someone can help as I am at a loss, Cheers all

Hi and welcome, There is probably an official way but the way I do it is to wrap some aluminum sheet around the spline of the crankshaft output gear(use some of decent thickness 2mm?) and put a stilson wrench on the alloy sleeve and with the idler gear still in place you should be able to unscrew the input nut. I suppose you could use an impact wrench (rattle gun) on the input nut. Jock

I can be contacted on martin@kmprecisionengineering.com Ouch ... this nut isn't that tight, it can be undone by using stilsons on the primary gear (with protection) and a socket on the nut
