Hi I have a metro 1275 A+1991 block can i fix a stranded 998cc gearbox to the bottom. Thanks Do mean transmission ? gearboxes are manual and are not so easy to cross fit in some cases issues will be obvious in others not so, however if you meant transmission then its ok but look out for the transfer gears as these are different and there are quite a mixture to compare....

It has always been my understanding that an auto trans will only fit an auto engine. Not sure about the fitment for 1275 auto engine to 998 auto trans.

I can be contacted on martin@kmprecisionengineering.com
Early Auto's used a manual block converted to work with the auto transmission, look for the unit that has a cast fitting that bolts to the point that a manual filter body would fix to.

I have a 998 auto A+ unit and have just brought another car (still to be delivered to me) I think it has an A+ 1275 engine, possibly mg metro. Question is can the 1275 manual engine be fitted to the 998 auto box?
I know the dip stick hole in the manual 1275 would be incorrect but are there other issues?

The answer is no, the oil pump is different, and the oilways from the pump is different too, it has been done, but it would mean a fair bit on engineering done to the manual block.

Ian After meeting and leaving my engine & box with Martin (the guru) at his engineering shop in Northampton I’m happy and confident in keeping the A+ 998 unit that was in the car when I brought it. He will advise the options tune wise and between us a decent outcome will be provided.
