Finally got my auto mini(spi) and looks like the reverse isn't engaging. It sounds like it goes in but it isn't. did full service and oil change to see if that may be the issue...im hearing if low on oil it could cause., but that didn't work. The car moves barley even when pressing the gas in reverse. All other gears work fine. So pulled off the front of the auto box and looks like the band for reverse is messed up or very loose. Any ideas? Please see link and let me know what to do? Reverse very loose?

Hi The link does not work for me, certainly a worn out or maladjusted reverse band will cause your problem, I guess it could have adjusted itself or the band lining has gone. you need a manual for adjustment if the band is worn out its an engine out job. Jock

When you say overseas, where are you? I'm in the Cayman Islands. I just decided to order a fully built gear box from Ap2 world.

All 3 bands on your automatic are incorrectly adjusted, the reverse band is worn to excess, hence why it can be pressed down so far. The adjustment is far too tight there is no "freeplay" which there should be 1mm on later boxes and 1 to 2mm on earlier boxes. I have noticed that there are some really poor quality "new" replacement bands on sale, they seem very hit and miss as far as quality is concerned, the way to tell these apart is quite simple, if the ends are machined flat don't use them (unless the quality and fit can be guaranteed) and if they have writing moulded in to them then these are ok.

Hi mra-minis (Martin),
i'm actually the guy that bought the full transmission from you. Took a little while to finally get, but had a little hold up because of a storm hitting this weekend, so going to pull the motor next week once it dries up from all the flooding, and hopefully get it back in within a week.
Ill let you know how it goes. Mike
