Hi,
Does anyone know where I can purchase a copy of the book:-
Foulis' Overhaul Manual: A.P. Automatic Transmission
ISBN-13 978-0854291496 Publisher G T Foulis & Co Ltd; First Edition (16 Nov. 1972)
Any advice much appreciated.
Thanks

I was looking for this book for about 3 years, it became an obsession, there was a few about but refused to pay the going rate at the time, about 70 quid, i mentioned it to my wife, and found one on amazon for under a fiver (including the postage). It turned up, it was an ex-library book from a library in Wales, it even had the card inside, last time it was taken out was 1985. There out there, you just might have to he lucky,

Hi Limby,
I know what you mean about it becoming an obsession. I have been looking for a copy for a while.
I've tried all sorts of book finding web site.
What did you think of the book?
Does it have step by step instructions?
Have you found it useful?
I bought a BMC AP transmission book off ebay. It has folder/binder holes, it looks like it is "part of/ a section from" a bigger workshop manual set.
If you planning on selling it at some point, I'd be interested in buying it or borrowing it.
Have you dismantled and successfully reassembled a transmission?
Many thanks
Ronnie

Hi Ronnie, the book is a good read, it has a very in-depth fault finding section, it breaks down in detail, however,it is from about 1972 so it was produced in the early years of the mini automatics. i cant say i learnt anything i did,nt already know from reading other books. Theres an austin 1100 auto supplement i gave to Martin i thought was pretty good, and theres an orange leyland manual which has a good auto section. Ive got the one you have and that is pretty basic but usable. My current gearbox i rebuilt and changes well, i did have 3x boxes i could strip down to get my head around, the trick is to photograph and take notes as you dissasemble. I did find Martin a big help and had several phone chats with him, he even made me a custum size bronze thrust washer.your welcome to borrow the book if you have no joy. Regards Terry.

Hi Terry,
Happy New year and all the best for 2021.
I've had no success with finding the book. I think I would have more joy searching for the holy Grail!
Could you provide further details of the other publications you mentioned?
I think I will try find a couple of gearboxes, to practice on, like you suggested.
I don't have any problems with my tranny, I'm wanting to understand the gearbox, with the aim of building uprated box with parts From Martin.
Many thanks
Ronnie

I believe I likely have what you want in pdf for download. Copyrights will not allow us to distribute the Foulis book however. You might start with Todd Miller's website austinamericausa.com. He has a very well written and pictured section on the automatic rebuild. PM me with your email and I will give you a link for all I have. Cheers, Mark
