Hi all, I am not quite new to minis as I built my version of a Broadspeed mini aged 17 in 1966 odd ,so that makes me a bit ancient. I have owned a couple of successful mini specialist businesses and done a lot of racing, but as I am now semi retired I wish to "tinker" . I have built a nice 65 Cooper s, but as I like doing club tours I have concentrated on removing or improving some of the things that BMC did not quite perfect. The two best things that I have done to really improve (in my eyes and ears) the driving experience for distances (200 - 2000klm) is fit very special coil springs all round (I ditched the hydrolastic as its not reliable enough on Aussie bumpy roads) and a 95 spi auto which has my special long duration ignition system and HIF44. But what the auto has done is it removes all driveline backlash/ jerkiness and most noticeably the torque convertor acts as a giant harmonic balancer and removes or repositions around 90% of the very difficult to improve harmonics of a 1275. So now i come to why I have joined this forum, to get assistance or maybe I can help others in the next part... I have purchased a jap mpi eng and auto box that has run out of 2nd at 35000 m or so.and wish to supercharge it with sprintex ( I have had two.. a 200hp moke with 12.5 sec 1/4 mile ... just miles too fast and a milder 140hp efi aftermarket ecu etc.. but manual) I personally have had almost no experience with mini autos, but a good friend designs some world best torque convertors for 1000 - 3000 hp drag cars, so I am trying to get a little help there....but I really can see there are some very helpful and experienced people on this forum who understand and have been there done that..and with" love."..In Australia we have no emission testing yet, but do have more and more rules on hotting up , so I figure that 120hp is still legal without engineering approval , but with a special torque convertor with up to 3 times torque multiplication the car would drive "really nice" It would involve auto upgrades obviously, and I hope to hear suggestions on how and who to purchase from or talk to. Cheers Lindsay The mini project will only be slowly done at present as I am well into restoring first another lovely British classic Allard v8 1949 that going from flathead v8 to Discovery 3.9 v8 and BW35 auto with 3 times torque multiplication and 1%slip.Sorry if this is a bit long.
