Sorry for asking yet another silly newbie question but I couldn’t find a straight answer anywhere: What coolant should I use for a 92 Rover Mayfair and I believe it is a Spi?
I have seen some folks mentioning IAT coolant (as supposed to OAT), also I have seen people using the Si-HOAT (silicate-enhanced OAT) coolant? What is the correct type of coolant for my car, regardless of the color?
Thank you.

IAT is the old green stuff that you need to change annually, and be careful with additive damage to water pumps.
I use HOAT (Hybrid Organic Acid Technology) in everything. It will give you 5-6 years of service, and is the only thing compatible with the residue you will have in older systems, or someone might accidentally add later.

Thank you Richard. If I only do a flush of coolant instead of cleaning out the entire cooling system, can I switch from IAT to HOAT or Si-HOAT without having any detrimental effects?

Thank you Richard. If I only do a flush of coolant instead of cleaning out the entire cooling system, can I switch from IAT to HOAT or Si-HOAT without having any detrimental effects? The HOAT is fine for 10% contamination. But it is a great time for a complete liquid chemical flush and rinse to have 6 years of driving with no problems. You can only do water at the moment, it will be ok, just make sure your heater valves are open, and either leave it al long time to heat and cool, or pull the thermostat for the cleaning. And put a 3mm hole in your thermostat to avoid air pockets. Tarija and Santa Cruz, Bolivia Attachments:
