This is Daisy, our Sprite that is one indicator & brake bleed away from going in for an MOT. We rescued her from a garage in Bo'ness who had a few that they were doing up, and they very kindly sold me it for a reasonable price & trailered it to my house. It runs very well, but had the clutch siezed on but I managed to free it off with lashings of WD40 and a crowbar! The problem was the throw-out stop being stuck in the bellhousing, and once the WD40 had soaked in, I slackened off the slave cylinder bleed nipple and it freed off no problem. Hasn't stuck since but is probably in need of another bleed as it is struggling to get in 1st, 2nd or reverse.
A full restoration is on the cards, pretty much the same as Olly's, but I had to replace a section of the passenger side floor due to rust. The car had been stored in a damp concrete garage for 3 years, and some idiot had jacked it up on the floor at some point. This cracked the underseal & bitumen on the floor, letting the moisture in & corrosion to take hold. Luckily it wasn't too bad and although it isn't the tidiest of jobs at the minute, it is a temporary measure until we can get a proper front footwell for an injection Mini.
As with Olly, we will post pics as things progress. The pics are in chronological order, starting at the yard in Bo'ness and you will see we are eventually going for a retro look with an old speedo & gauges.
CPU removed to get at clutch!Looks a bit scruffy just now, but will be cleaned up and have a nice MG Metro alloy rocker cover to spruce it up a bit
The troublesome article - why automatics have serious advantages!!
Where the moisture did the damage
...all because some idiot jacked it up on the floor!!
New floor section welded in. Had to cut a standard floor pan to match up to the injection one with the extra rib for the fuel pipes. Apparently Hadrian started selling one a month after I got mine...!!
Unfortunately a bit fuzzy - problems with the flash!
Not workshop standard, but better than what was(n't) there before
New carpets back in & temporary clocks installed (held in by cable ties.... No point in fixing permanently if coming out!)
Other fixes needed were new heater matrix (£20), wiper motor (£20), battery (£40), handbrake cable, backplate, brake shoes & wheel cylinders, rear compensators freed off. It has taken a bit longer to get this far, but with 3 cars (we also have a 68 Hornet!) time was getting spread too thin. Now that Olly's of the road we can get motoring on with Daisy and that will be another saved from the scrappy!!
