Hello, my 1995 Mini Automatic suddenly lost all oil pressure and of course any drive. This was during high RPM, around 4K at highway speed, and I was curious if the Oil Pump gasket could have failed. Currently the oil light will not go out so I'm hesitant to run the engine at all. However it starts and sounds normal for the few seconds I've let it run.. I've checked thr pressure relief valve and it seems ok. After reading post here and elsewhere my next step is to remove the PRV, spark plugs, and crank the engine to see if oil comes out. I'd appreciate any suggestions for next steps, etc. Thanks

Hi sorry to hear of your problems, the PRV is almost the last item in the oil supply system if you lost drive then any oil at the PRV while cranking is unlikely. It sounds quite catastrophic a blown pipe, something stuck in the valve block, I just had a thought, possibly a broken drive to the oil pump, I have come across two engines with 1/2 stripped splines on the oil pump shaft/drive spider, in my opinion there is a design fault in the pump, spider, camshaft. A leaking pump gasket would allow air into the suction, the discharge from the pump is into a pipe a fracture there is a slight possibility. I'm afraid you are going to get your hands dirty. Jock

Thanks Jock.
I'm just really hoping it's not the oil pump as they are hard, if not impossible to find.

I have one for a 1968ish engine, I don't think the design was changed over the years, someone in the group may comment on that. Spiders should be available I think some manuals used that drive. Jock

Thanks Jock, I expect mine will be a slot drive but that's just based off books etc. I'll definitely keep yours in mind when I get mine out.

Unfortunately it sounds like you will need to tear down the transmission.

Yup, I'm working with Martin to get a rebuilt transmission.
