Wow! It's not everyone who can boast cruise control in a classic mini. the whole project looks amazing. thanks I used the Honda del slows stock pedal box, and that car came with the cruise control set up some people have said that I have taken the Brit out of my mini, and some have asked if I was building a mini or a honda sometimes I feel that way because almost every panel on the car has had some work done to it and its on another motor swap last night I made the temp connection from the Honda wiper motor wiring to mini wiper motor, temp connection because I want to see if it works before I take the time to solder it all up and find out the hard way that it don't work or does work and I started to make the battery cable set up to go from the front to back but I have to plan on the battery mount in the rear as well

It's still a mini. No matter what you have done to the drive, it is still registered as a mini. Just look at the street rod! you could call it a Frankenmini, LOL I'd like nothing better than to find a good 1100 shell and drop an Accord Vtech into it. Auto of course. They even have aftermarket subbies for that.

Mark frankencars is pretty much everything that my family builds the family car line up is crazy 4bt/5 speed manual 84 chevy single cab truck, 64 nova wagon with a 235/t-5 manual 57 chevy truck with a Camaro front clip, with a 283/700r4 55 210 gasser home built, 427/5 speed/ford 9 inch, disc brakes on all 4 55 belair with a rack steering, carb vortec 350/doug nash 5 speed, hydro-boost brake set up, its a nice cruiser type car the most stockiest car is the 75 lhd 998 mini I have a half way built 37 chevy truck, 5.3/manual trans, home built frame, s-10 based front suspension, and long trail arm tri-3link my 84/85 mini, going from built d16/manual to bone stock d16/automatic plus we all have our daily driver cars that are pretty much stock plus the motorcycles 42 flat head Harley, its has a 74 cu inch flat head motor, and a 4 speed gearbox into stock housing, (3speed with reverse is stock for that gearbox) the bike looks stock hd fxr is in the process of getting a 96 shovel head motor into it, it had a built 80 but the cases are old now, so that 80 is getting new cases and becoming a 88 cu in my brother has a 103 hd dyna that we call the rv, because it revs slower then that built 80 did, so he says anyways, but its a built motor as well, stage 3 or something like that, cam, tune, exhaust, head work, bigger valves, chain driven, he's having trans problems with it, he's in the process of upgrading the trans bearings now and my dad has a newer 103 dyna, that's pretty much cam, upgraded valves, tune, exhaust everything home built I want to take the del slow chassis and cut it down to fit a mini shell over it stock Honda suspension on a wide body mini, and use bone stock Honda axles, I think it would be awesome wide body to fit the Honda chassis into a mini body, I'm a gearhead for life, and when I'm mad at the world, its nice to go into my place and work on stuff and listen to music and chill, turning a wrench just works for me

my lower back and hips hurt this morning, so I didn't really do much work on the car today but tonight one of my neighbors pissed me off, so I had to focus that to something positive so I built a new throttle bracket from some scrape 3/16 plate I had laying around throttle bracket by joaquinn lopez, on Flickr

I have installed the fuel pump into the tank and the tank into the car
I have fuel lines ran from the tank to the front of the firewall and I have the purge canister line ran from the tank to the firewall area right now
after lunch I plan to install the purge canister and run the lines for that to the intake and purge valve on the intake manifold
and I need to wire up the fuel pump and the fuel level sender
the car is almost ready
I haven't even started to look at the exhaust set up yet

fuel tank in boot by joaquinn lopez, on Flickr purge canister by joaquinn lopez, on Flickr fuel lines are done, I still need to make a strap for the tank I even ran a line from the tank to the purge canister and the two lines from the intake manifold my car has to pass the tail pipe smog test for a 85 reg here in Tucson, the law is 67 and older don't have to smog or get it reg outside of Tucson or phx city limits but I'm not trying to do that kind of bs the del slow passed smog with flying colors earlier in the summer so that drivetrain shouldn't have any problems if everything I have done is correct and I still need to make a battery mount for the bat, positive cable is good now, but I need to install the ground cable my battery was dead, so I put it on the slow charge over night

I ended up swapping the mini tank for the stock Honda del slow tank (11.9 US gallons)
I got the car running again
and I have to get a non vented fuel tank cap
the vented cap I have right now is causing some vacuum problems with the emission system, ie purge canisters and what not stuff

Post by joakwin on Dec 21, 2017 23:26:02 GMT
Looking in my boxes of extra mini parts, I found a non vented fuel tank cap with keys
Pretty happy about that
I took the stock del slow exhaust off and I started to mod it to fit The mini
I plan to run a 29 or 30 inch cherry bomb with 2.5 inch inlet and outlet The stock del slow exhaust pipe is 1-7/8’s So I got some autozone 1-7/8’s to 2-1/4 adapter pipes to fit The muffler in
I plan to run the stock cat and then about a foot of pipe And then muffler and then 90 bend and make the pipe Come out in front of the right rear wheel

If you go from a 2" or even 2 1/4" flex tube off the header all the way thru to the bomb, you can put a K&N intake filter on it. The results are unreal!

I got a intake tube and filter for the car
and I got the exhaust pipe adapters needed to weld on the muffler
Ive been sick for a few days now and we went away to the mountains in California for Christmas
and I took today off from work wifes and kids went to the zoo and I plan on welding up the exhaust this morning for the mini
I'm looking at buying some 13x7 vto -7 et wheels $160 each
I got $400 saved up so far
and I'm thinking about stepping up the tire size to a 185/60/13 its a 21inch tall tire, a little more side wall will help with the ride
but I'm pretty much waiting on wheels because I can get the car off the stands
my 13x6's hit the trans when I turn the steering
I'm not in a hurry but I want to get wheels asap to start driving this car

sheet metal dash by joaquinn lopez, on Flickr I started to build my sheet metal dash, by hand, I don't own any crazy sheet metal bender machines, I have a hammer and dolly kit and I bent it the hard way I'm going to do a few layers in the center section or I'm going to try anyways

those wheels I was looking at wont work because they are made for 1/2 inch wheel studs,
I don't think the mini hubs and support being drilled out that far
I have a set of 13x5 minilite wheels, I plan to upgrade to a 7/16's wheel stud and then the lug nuts needed for minilite wheels is super cheap
I can get a 5 pack of lug nuts for about $15usd, vs about $8usd each for the 3/8's size the mini normally uses
cheaper price
I'm thinking about a 165/60/13 tire or a 175/60/13 tire I think those tire sizes should give a nice ride to them vs a 175/50/13

progress slowed down
i had a injection into my lower back last Friday and i slept most of the weekend away
but i had some work in progress
the mounts for the tie bars are made, and today i started to make a bar that connections my upper coilover mounts together using 1/2 inch joints, the tabs i made i used 3/16 plate
i plan to use a 3/4 dom tube to connect the two sides together
next week i want to start brake lines, building them and whatnot

rear brakes 2 by joaquinn lopez, on Flickr today i moved the location of the coilover so that i could move the location of the caliper i plan on running a 165/60/13 or a 175/60/13 tire im using the stock Honda brake proportioning valve for disc brakes the stock del sol front rotor is 240mm, aka 9.44 inches and the stock calipers are single piston my front rotors are 9.5 inches and im using wilwood 4 piston calipers i have alittle more braking power up front my front brakes should stop the car long before the rear brakes lock up

I,m thinking that braking power wont be an issue as long as you have enough rubber on!. that's the plan i hope the coilovers and rear sway bar help it handle like a rail and just be an all out fun car to drive i know the roll cage had made the shell super stiff, no body flex out of it at all
