Today, I found a new home for my spare 1275 automatic. A chap called me and said he was about to swap an automatic engine from an Austin America for a (heaven forbid) 1275 manual drive engine until he found my ad. My spare is a 1989 A+ metro engine I imported from the UK. I was going to make the necessary changes to make it fit my 1969 America because I was wanting inner CV's. I decided insead to swap one of my 1989 1275 A+ Metro manuals for a 1969 1275 America automatic this spring. Naturally, he will have to pay me a large amount plus the auto drive as a penalty for trashing another Austin America automatic. ;D I will use this spare to rescue another. And so on... and so on... I have put out an APB for North America to not trash any more autos or auto parts. If one doesn't want to keep it, send it to me. So far, I have these two and one more coming. The latter being a retired 1100 mini auto. He wanted the Cooper parts from it. Did you know that 1100 automatics used genuine Cooper parts? It was for the necessary extra Horse power. Can anyone tell me how many fwd gears are in that 1989 1275 A+ auto?

All the AP autos had 4 forward gears Its often confused because later cars only had 1-2-3 on the transmission gate but the only difference was the earlier cars that had 1-2-3-4 had manual override on 4th Forth gear is still there on the later transmissions you just select "D" after 3rd only difference is you cannot hold them in 4th i think this was done to save BL money should of left them with Manual 4th override in my opinion Good work on persuading that guy to stick with the auto The more we educate those thinking of converting the more autos we keep on the road If memory serves me correct i think we may of had an 1100 auto in the clubman here in the UK for a while? However it was dropped in favour of the 998 auto soon after Don't think ours had any cooper parts though? I could be wrong though? Huggz Jodie

I sent a message to the owner of that dead 1100 auto. He confirmed that the head and cam are the same as the Cooper 1000 (998?)

Theres a lot of anomalies it seems here in the UK we often didn't get what other overseas markets got Its Ironic they were made in the UK and the exports got all the goodies Theres times i wish i lived elsewhere and could get a fully loaded Mini i especially like the Aussie Clubmans

Same goes for the Aussie 1100/1300. I'll include the Moke and the 1500. They all had great options as opposed to what was available anywhere else.

And the irony is that the aussie 1100/1300/1500 were very poor sellers. I have never actually seen a 1500 on the road! Jodie you should come to Aus, Aussie clubmans are everywhere here!

The Aussie Morris 1100 was a great selling car. It was the best selling 4 cylinder car from 64 to 68 beating the Mini by a long way. Unfortunately when they replaced it with the 1500/1300auto things went suddenly downhill.

The production figures I have for the Morris 1100 was...
Morris 1100 Deluxe = 68862 Morris 1100 Standard = 125 Morris 1100S = 13361 Morris 1100 Auto = 4032 Morris 1100S Auto = 768
So only 4800 Auto Morris 1100s.
I don't have any accurate figures for the 1500/1300 but Phil Rixon gives the total as about 29000 with about of them being 3500 Autos.

By way of clarification for our overseas friends, the 1100S in Auto and Manual forums actually had a 1275cc single carb engine. Hence many 1100S were ratted for their engines to put into Minis.

I'd love to rat one for a clubby (for those playing in UK, we didn't get auto clubbys here) but I guess that would be sacrilige...
