Up until a couple of days ago Boris hadn't really moved a wheel for nearly two weeks so before i started him i check all the levels first Coolant Fine but Oil is Low He appears to have lost about half a litre When we parked him up it was just below max on the dipstick Then two weeks later hes just above Min Theres no oil leaked out and hes clean underneath so I'm burning oil right? Wrong! No strange smoke or oily plugs fantastic Oil Pressure so have i actually lost any oil or is it playing tricks with me? And if i have lost oil where exactly has it gone? If not where is it hiding? I thought maybe the oil was extremely cold and thick so got it up to temperature let its settle and did the correct auto oil check procedure and everytime got the same reading just above min My Friend who services minis in our area reckons so long as its above minimum and its running OK just top it up But i really want to know why its appeared to have disappeared? Boris has only covered 1100 miles since the last oil change using Valvoline VR1 and the oil is spotless Any Ideas Anybody? Huggz Jodie

A real puzel this one - sometimes very small leaks are very hard to spot, have you put him on some ramps to check everywhere? very fine mist coming from the fuel pump behind the engine is a common one. Sometimes oil gets blown back half way down the car leaving the engine bay/underneith looking clean!! Sorry not much help.

Have the gremlins been drinking it perhaps? ..........sorry Unless you find a very small leak, it may simply be the oil has settled from your last change? Possibly the fuel pump diaphram has perished and you've burnt it.................................... 'ang on though - you said he's been standing still! Hmmmmmmmm ......an very strange one this is, and no mistake! Emma

HI The amount you have mentioned it droping on the dip stick would seem to be about 500ml , this is the same amount as the torque convertor holds! Maybe thats the answer. Dont known how or why but seems logical . maybe the oil has now fully refilled the TC and is showing the true level now?

The amount of oil missing is small, I think I would keep an eye on things but not worry too much unless the loss becomes more significant, Oil level on autos is a bit of a mystery, I dipped Otto yesterday and it was 1" above full, it had grown since I last checked and this is a car with a good oil leak.

The torque convertor holds a bit more than 0.5l of oil You say Boris hasn't moved since you checked the oil the first time ? but had you just parked him and checked his oil ?? the oil would have been a tad warmer..... and also less likely to "stick around" while you a) turned the engine off, b) waited the 1minute and then checked your oil...... the colder oil would still be in the top of the engine and hence the missing oil is only missing off the dip stick and is still in the engine
