My Minis names were picked as follows ... Min - pretty self explanatory this one, she was my first Mini Merri - named after the place we stayed at in Guernsey which is where I bought her from, the place was called Les Merriennes Minki - combination of the words pink and mini Maggi - carrying on the tradition of 'M' names, I just thought it sounded cute and suited her Mandi - well it had to be another 'M' name so I picked this one to sort of rhyme with van as thats what she is Oh and yes if I ever get any more to add to my fleet they will also be given 'M' names too As for Michaels Minis there is ... Budgie - named so because of the BJE in the number plate Humphrey - haven't got a clue why he picked this name, I think he just plucked it out of the sky ;D

I originally just called my Austin America Notamini but later felt it wasn't really a name but a public statement. So I registered him with personal plates that say NOTAMINI. I did feel the gender was definitely male. I thought of names associated with British Man servants or butlers and almost ended up with Monty, short for Montmorency (Percival Algernon Montmorency Charles comes to mind) and not associated with Monty Python. I have now decided his permanent name should be Mortimer (Morty) because he reminds me of Mortimer Schnerd the puppet. He can act quite goofy at times and the name just seems to suit when you look at him. ;D ;D

I call my classic Bertie. I really enjoyed the series Jeeves and Wooster, and Hugh Laurie is just so likeable, Bertie just seemed to fit. My MINI is Oliver. I love Dickkens. The truck is just the truck....

A mate used to call my 71 Moke "The Moke with No Poke" when it was under restoration and not running. That got shortened to "Mopoke" and it stuck.
My 75 Corona Coupe was dubbed the "Silver Ghost" by a different mate, because "it's silver, rarely seen in public and renders people speechless when spotted".
I named my 65 Traveller "Trixie" after a friends dog. The dog was small, white and cute too!
My 80 Corona Liftback daily hack is "Beep Beep" simply because that's what my son calls it.
The recently arrived racing Mini project is called the "Mongrel Mini" because it's made up of bits from various Minis.
Finally the 09 Pathfinder Turbo-Diesel is "The Pathie" or simply "the truck".

So private plates are available to you in the UK? Can you determine the letters and numbers?

So private plates are available to you in the UK? Can you determine the letters and numbers? no we cant pick what they say but it is from a pre-determined list and have letter and number combinations to choose from that can at best sort of spell out words, names or initials etc but you can only choose from a list of already existing plates. Eg. One of mine reads HOL *** (the 3 stars represent the 2 numbers and a letter that are on the end that actually mean nothing to me but I obviously bought the plate coz the first bit says HOL for Holly ) I also have a *** TOY for my Shorty and a *** PNK for my pink Mini The plates vary in price depending on what they read etc but we could not have one that just said TOY, PINK or HOLLY as plates like that were never released and as far as I know it has to be a letter and number combination. But you could have for instance HOL 1Y or P1 NKS or something like that but they would most likely already be owned by very rich people and would be worth an absolute fortune to buy . Bit of a a confusing explanation sorry .

In Victoria we can have personalised plates of up to six letters in any colour combination we choose. Cost is $150-500 up front (depending on colour and number/letter combo) and once paid for you own them for life and can transfer or sell them at will. There's no annual fee to keep them. It costs $100 every time you transfer them to another car though. The only downside is if you have concessional historic registration, you can't have custom plates on the car, you have special maroon plates. I have "BN.874" on my Corona Coupe - my initials and birth month and year. These plates were an 18th birthday present from my parents and I've transferred them multiple times since. All my other cars have standard issue plates (ASE360, WWJ494 etc), except the Moke which has historic plates (00886H). EDIT: For the plate buffs, here is the Vicrtorian custom plates website. www.vplates.com.au/Cheers,

We can't chose colours but we can have from 2 to 8 letter/number combos. We can even separate with a crown. Then we have plates with pictures you can select from a list and Historic plates (don't know the ruling there). Finally, we have the right to resurrect old plates if the bureau finds they have cleared history on them. I'm not sure but we might be allowed to customise the historics some but they must start with H or HIS.
I forgot about the UK plates. I was told that a real bad bidding war can break out over the right ones. Someone from my other group says he makes great cash at looking for specific plates to resell.

When I bought my Mini Mayfair, it was poshest Mini I'd ever owned, also (in Mini terms), a very quiet one. Everyone always commented on the burr walnut dashboard and the posh Metro type seats. The car had an air of granduer about it, so it seemed the obvious choice to name him 'Mr Bridger' as per the part that Noel Cowered played in 'The Italian Job'! It suits him perfectly!
