That Cabrio is really a 1994 cabrio with a suspiciously new 1970 chassis plate. I'll wager that chassis number belonged to a car that was scrapped.

What does this sticker mean? 95 RON catalyst. It sits next to the suspicious plate. And you are right, it is very suspicious. If it is a '94, then it is no rare bird at all but just another Cabrio. Is this correct?

95 RON is the octane rating of standard unleaded fuel. It's just a warning sticker reminding that you must only use unleaded fuel.
That sticker would not have been put on before the chassis plate in 1970 - catalysts were unheard of then - so why is the chassis plate covering part of it? Something is clearly not straight about this car.

I know of a few 90's Minis running around with a 70's Australian built Mini's identity. Highly illegal. We can import Minis up to 1988 and late 97-2000 for road use. The compliance (like type approval) process for the late model ones is expensive. Some come in as "race use only" and just sort-of disappear. Cheers, Brett.

But of course there are quite a few here too. Hence the trade in log books for pre-72 cars that are road tax exempt in the UK. You see an "old" Mini and think "that doesn't look quite right" - usually it's easy enough to tell the difference between early and late cars if you know what to look for, but plenty of people get away with it. Very few are genuine reshells.
