Not sure if I'm in the right bit but here goes. Myrtle needs to have her engine cleaned. When you lift the bonnet the only clean thing is the new starter motor. I'm not talking show cleaning just a good healthy clean. What's best and what should I avoid. Hugs Wendy

Do you have the Castrol product called 'Super Clean'? I love it! It's biodegradable too! Just be sure to (1) let it soak (2) rinse it well. 'Gunk' has been another fave of mine for decades. (Oops, dated myself again) ;D

Id Highly Recommend 3in1 Heavy Duty Citrus De greaser available from Halfords I did try Gunk but it just wouldn't shift the dirt and Grime So i used the 3in1 stuff i just sprayed it on and it swells up to a foam like consistency, leave it a minute or two and scrubbed it off with some of those dish washing sponges you get from supermarkets I bought mine from asda i think they were about 20p a packet i went through about 5 packets i applied the degreaser about 4 times in total and each time the engine got a little cleaner I eventually wiped down the whole engine with an old sponge to wipe of any last traces then dried off the Engine Fortunately Our Engine was partially stripped so nothing in the way,if you want to see how dirty it was and how clean it got it check out the project thread here autominiregister.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=project&action=display&thread=3&page=2We also painted ours afterwards Hope this Helps?

Hiya Wendy Lidl do a good engine cleaner, it has a green cap but I think they only stock it from time to time as it's not always in my local store. It is very good as you just spray it on and the grease just runs off within seconds and it's not that expensive either Lea

Itend to use paraffin in one of those spray things connected to an airline. If no airline just use paraffin and a paintbrush and a final rinse with Jizer or gunk and wash off. Cover electrical stuff with a plastic bag first.

The label's come off my bottle now but I'm sure it's made by Comma - pink stuff in a red bottle. Completely water-soluble - brush on, wash off. I use a pressure washer but I leave the engine running while I do that bit!
When we bought a modern car from Available Car they told us that they don't wash under bonnets because of the risk of getting water in the electronics! We don't have that worry at least...
