Okay,
looking ahead a bit but just getting prepared.
When all mechanical repairs and upgrades are complete it will be cosmetic time. I love the colour that Myrtle is but do not know if it's the original or not. The colour code is UME and she is a metallic blue. There is some evidence of a re-spray[stripes painted over]. Anywhere I can check the colour code? Also has anyone had an external re-spray done? I'm going to see someone recommended to me but unsure what a fair price would be. I know it depends on a lot of things but a rough idea would help.
Thanks folks,
Wendy

I had my daughter's mini resprayed after I restored the bodywork and it was £2,000. that was a bare shell as well. I think the going rate is about £2,000 to £2,500. Not Cheap. That's why I'm having a go at the Greenie myself.

HIya Wendy. I have to agree with Clambod on the price as I had a quote last year and it come to around £2500 and that would be a rolling shell going to the bodyshop but if I took the complete car there it would have been alot more. About checking the colour of Myrtle, you can get your colour code off your VIN plate and you can check this website and you should be able to find it www.minicolours.co.ukHope this helps Lea

You won't find the colour code on the VIN plate. There may be a trim code, but that's not the paint colour. I have a long list of BL paint codes. Some of these are MG and Land Rover but a lot of those colours are shared with the Mini anyway. I've posted them hereAs regards resprays, it won't be cheap and quite honestly you get what you pay for. A decent job will probably be more than you paid for the car - expect £1500+. Bear in mind paint costs £40-£60 per litre depending on type, metallic will require a lacquer coat too, but the majority of the cost is in preparation. The better the prep the better the finish, and trust me, Minis are not easy to prep! You might get it a bit cheaper if you are able to do some of the prep yourself.

Hiya I'm sure that Jodie told me that it was on the VIN plate but I may be wrong, so do you know where we would find the paint code?

It all depends on the year of Mini? Boris had his on the Vin Plate if its a later Austin/Rover era model it should have a plate on the inner wing much like this one My Previous Mini "Spud" which was a 1977 Clubman had no paint code anywhere Luckily the first owner had written the colour "reynard" in the rear of the handbook in the "notes" pages UME is Carribian Blue as far as i know

my 1990 car has the paint code on the vin plate.
i'm in the middle of sorting out a respray, red with a black roof so the roof need a bit of working, 1 door may need reskinning or a repair at the least, 2 little patches need welding in. so it an exterior respray with a little bit of the interior done as the carpet will cover most anyway. i'v been quoted €1400, £1000, €800 and awaiting another quote today all including prep and paint.
the £1000 quote was from a guy in northern ireland, i saw a midget and a range rover that he'd done and they were both near flawless
basically u need to shop around and get the best compromise between finish and price, basically u get what u pay for

got that other quote.................€1600
none of the quotes i got seem to be anywhere near over the top or as much as u guys are getting charged. and another guy i checked with in northern ireland (he wasnt interested as he had too much work on) anyway he said he had a mini in last year which needed a front end and reaspray and he charged £1500 for the job.
maybe resprays are 1 of the few things that are cheaper over here???

At those prices it would be worth taking your mini for a holiday in Ireland for a respray

u have to make sure what paint is going to be used too. the 1400 quote was base and laquer and it'd be 150 cheaper with 2k(i think thats the way round) the same guy said 100 cheaper if i strip the paint and 1100 if i strip the car and i have a white roof(not black) so if u put in some work it helps the pocket! and if any1 is considering going to ireland, might i suggest this>>>>>> www.irishminis.ie/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=5348&sid=d1810a71f95552d93bca3b0be9502299(good plug for IMOC too!!)

2k will be cheaper than base and lacquer as there is one coat less, no lacquer. That only applies to solid colours. Metallic still needs a lacquer coat.
