We are looking to do some sort of headlight upgrade to improve visibility at night. We need to improve vision primarily with dipped beam but would also like a better main beam. I'm just wondering what people's experience in this area is and if anyone has any recommendations on the best way to go. We may also put some driving lamps on. Thaks, Paul

Wipac Quadoptic; economical and efficient halogen replacement. About £5 a pair for the full conversion kit.
I have them fitted to both my regular-use Minis. I have to say that they're spot-on in the later car (Nemo); in Skye they seem to overload the wiring a bit (been through two switches) so I'd probably advise fitting a relay to the wiring, which is what I intend to do as soon as I have time and better weather (or get my garage sorted out!)

I take it your Mini still has the sealed beam headlight units ? If so then any kind of halogen headlight will be a vast improvement (If you already have halogen headlights and are looking for an improvement on them then I am not really sure what to suggest.), halogens are usually one of the first improvements I make to any of my Minis when I add a new one to the fleet as I cant stand the wussy sealed beam units .

Yes, it still has the wussy sealed-beam units. I'm not too bothered but the boss drove it at night and was not impressed!
Chris: where were the Wipac Quadoptics at a fiver for the pair? I can only find them around £35. I suspect a typo!

Yes, it was a typo, sorry. I blame my dyslexic fingers. £35 was the figure I had in mind.
Just realised as I typed that, £ and 3 are the on the same key, so probably why. Doesn't excuse my eyes from failing to spot it too though!
