Hello folks, As you know in my hello post I reported that Daisy ran OK but as soon as you started turning electrical items on she would misfire and the tacho would jump around like mad. As Clambod said "The electronic ignition sounds like it's not got a good live and the voltage is dropping when something else draws power" Spot on. The previous owner had wired up the coil with the "resistive" wire attached. So the electronic ignition (a later modification) was starved of power. I thought I better make sure there where no more errors I then had a hunt around the web and found this homepage.ntlworld.com/alan.gledhill/Dizzy/dizzy.htmI made sure that it actually was an electronic coil as best I could, marked 12v and the three remaining numbers seemed to show it as a Unipart electronic coil. Inspected the fit and cleaned all the connectors. It all fell into place as the "resistive wire" was reducing the voltage/current to save wear and tear on the points that are no longer there (had to learn about ballasted systems ). I've run a 12V from the fuse box to the coil and made sure that the electronic ignition unit had the full 12V. Bingo She could run all the electrics and ramp up the engine rpm smooth as silk. Left the "resistive wire" in place seems to be ok. Just the Oil change to do now she is slightly overfilled and the oil is the colour of tea. Daisy the Mini

You seem to be getting used to the mini quite well. If the oil is the colour of Tea then it's probably quite fresh. It's when it's filthy black it needs changing. It can't do any harm to change it and the filter. It will give you piece of mind.

The oil may not actually be overfilled - you check it in a slightly diferent way for automatics: -
1. Run the engine for 5 minutes 2. Let it stand for 1 minute 3. check the oil
Sorry if I'm teaching grandma to suck eggs but it's always good to point this out when someone has an auto.
