Hi people, I have a 94 1275 mayfair auto and have noticed a slight fluctuation (drop) every now and then in the revs when at a stand and this hasn't happend before, is this anything to worry about

Hmmm...... could be one of a few things. I would suggest checking the oil level first as the torque converter (which is full of it) is always going round with the engine running and putting a load on it. Beyond that we'll have to start 'asking the qvestionz!' Emma

Oil!!!!!!! funny you should say that and you could well have hit the nail on the head as recently my Arry had a service at a mini centre and when i got him back i checked the oil and it's rather on the OVER the max side, So thats going to be my first port of call get the oil level correct. Also would over doing it with the oil cause any problems with the choke? as in when when you pull it out to much the revs are supossed to rise but mine just want's to fluctuate drop and die it doesn't want to go above 1600 just stubbornly refuses but once i get going it's fine but then stop again and try to pull the choke out (i know your not supose to do it just trying to work thing's out) and the same thing happens I think the oil thing sounds good though so i'll try that first

Is your 94 Mini a carb or injection model? I have a 1996 injection 1.3i and periodically the revs are all over the place. sadly very few garages have a rolling road as tuning is key to smooth running. Not sure if that helps?

When we first got Boris(1275 injection) at idle when started he would idle at something like 1500rpm + then switch off the ignition and start him again and it would drop to 850ish We mentioned this to Martin when getting the Transmission Rebuilt and he replaced either the vacuum pipes or the elbows i forget now,but Boris now always idles Correctly If your SPI is idling too high its either the Vacuum pipes or Elbows Damaged or Split Huggz Jodie
