My 1996 1.3 spi auto' is generally very reliable, however for some reason it cut out three times on the way to work this morning - as soon as I slowed down or stopped at junctions. If I kept the revs up, it seemed to be fine, but as soon as it went to idle speed - out it went. The only difference I can think of is that the car lay idle whilst I was on holiday for two weeks, but it started and drove without any problems last week. Any suggestions?

Thanks for that Ryan. I had wondered about the fuel mixture. I will have the plugs changed too, the ones that are in now haven"t been in very long but I may try a set of NGK spark plugs this time. Thanks again. Roger.

I assume, given the age of the thread, that this issue has been resolved. For the benefit of anyone who might read it, I've had a similar problem.
For me, the car would drive fine while it was getting up to temperature. Once up to temp, the car would stall when coming to a stop at junctions etc. The culprit on my car was one of the vacuum pipes, there are four on the SPI. Yellow on the Airbox, red from Airbox to inlet manifold, a short black one from inlet manifold to fuel trap, and a longer one from the fuel trap to the ECU. They can crack/perish over time, thus not hold vacuum, and cause issues with the fueling. For me, the shorter one was the problem, changed that and problem solved.
It's a relatively simple job, but is made quite difficult as access is not easy. I suspect it's a lot easier to do with the inlet manifold removed, but with a lot of swearing I was able to do it in situ, just lifting the airbox out of the way. Hope someone finds that useful.
