Is there an easy way to refit the auxiliary spring in the rear of a '69 Nomad. I just changed a bag in the right hand rear & I'm having a bit of difficulty replacing the spring into it's correct position. There doesn't appear there is an easy way but I would be very appreciative to any clues. I originally bought this car for the motor for one of my Mini's but it's way too rare to wreck. I believe they only made 1000 1300 auto Nomads so I would imagine there would probably only 200 or 300 left (If that???) Any help would be great. Cheers Bill.

All done. Made a tool up from a 5/8" A/F open ended spanner & slotted it back into place easily.

Great to hear that, Koolkar. I also have the auxiliary spring. It came standard in all Austin Americas which is not too dissimilar to your Nomad. I almost looked into the purchase of one a year ago but shipping to Canada killed my dream. Please do not ever think about wrecking it.

No I won't be wrecking it as it is way to good a car & after some searching it's rare as well. Apart from a little rust in the doors (easily fixed) it has none in the floors or main structure. I drove this car home from Taree in New South Wales back to Jimboomba Queensland with no worries what so ever (About 600klms or 370 mls) It will join our other Morris's a 1952 Morris Cowley Utility & our little fleet of Mini's, 1968 Mini Panel-van (this is my wife's everyday driver), 1960 Traveler, 1964 Mini Cooper S, 1980 Mini Moke Californian (1275cc) & an LS Clubman. My Dad (RIP) worked as an engineer at the "Pressed Steel" in Swindon in the UK in the mid '50's & was on the design team that made the Morris/Austin Mini. I had often said to him before he passed away at 81yo that he should write a book but sadly all that information went with him when he succumbed to esophagus cancer back in 2007. Although we have mainly Mini's my wife Kyrie & I love all things classic & enjoy using our cars in local club events.

Bill. The group probably would love to see your fleet. Can you post any pictures? All I've ever owned is my '69 America in '74 to '78 and now this one since '04. My sister had an 1100 68ish and my youngest brother had a 60's Mini 1000 and an older sliding window Cooper 'S'. My son-in-law's dad had a '65 Morris 1100 and my wife's uncle also had one. I really love the styling that was put on all the Aussie BMC cars.
