Hi Craig, the automatic Mini has been available as an 850' 998 and 1275cc . I have owned both the 998 and 1275 cc and have found both to be excellent. The automatic was never available with the 1098 as far as I'm aware. In terms of the best spec' the Mini 30 was available in limited numbers with the auto transmission. Personally if I were looking to buy an automatic high spec Mini now, I would consider a Japanese re-imported Mini which in later spec have many of the later MPI features - for example an airbag, extra soundproofing and side impact bars. That said the uk spec Mayfair in standard form is lovely with its walnut dash and post 1993' have the larger seats. Good luck with your search! Roger.

The type 'A' engines were introduced with autotrans in 1965. Here is a quote from the ADO16 info website ADO16.info"In October 1965, the AP/BMC automatic transmission became available on the Austin and Morris models. Giving the driver both a manual and automatic gearbox. This set-up was also introduced to the mini at the same time. The AP/BMC automatic unit was one of the most advanced on the markets at the time, and received excellent write ups in the motoring magazines." This had to be both the Mini 1000 and the Austin/Morris 1100 engines because the 1275 (1300) wasn't introduced until 1967.
