Hi all
First post for me, but I have been reading up on this forum for a while...
I hope somebody can help me with a question about wheel nuts; I have a set of Dunlop D1 alloy rims that seem to use a weird combination of tapered and tube-style nuts. To clarify, there is a recess for a large washer AND a taper in the holes. I have never seen anything like this before.
Can I use either a nut with the correct taper or a tube nut, or does it have to be this mythical combination nut? Any advice would be appreciated as I have not been able to use my rather excellent alloys.

Hi
Thanks for the link Emma, but none of those look correct to me. Without the benefit of a picture replacing a thousand words I will try to explain it a bit better...
Looking at the wheel from the "outside", there is a flat recess that looks like it should take a flat washer (like a tube would have) and beyond that (deeper into the wheel, towards the "inside") there is a tapered section like a, well, tapered nut would use. The hole itself is also too small to fit the one and only tube-style nut that I do own.
I have not measured the recess for the washer for diameter or depth, nor have I measured the hole itself (don't know how I would determine the angle of the taper accurately), so maybe having that information would help?

Ah.... that's why I suggested you e-mail them. They don't illustrate everything they keep.
I'm aware of the D1 nuts - I had some on a car once - I wish I still had them *sighs*

I see; didn't read your reply properly. Thanks again, I will try to get in touch with them.
Does that mean that you have seen these weird and wonderful combination nuts before then?

Yes I have seen these oddities - as I said I used to have a set. The old Wolfrace wheelnuts were similar, most people don't notice this as the conical washer often got stuck on its seat. When you remove the wheel all you see is a tubular nut. Engineering practices were still very much the order of the day back then - meaning things were done properly Emma
