I don't follow why this should be so.... Minis (both auto and manual) ended up with alternators while still having A series as opposed to A+ engines , and with cannister type oil filters. The only difference was that one of the mounting brackets bolted to the block was changed for a different type. My car has a Lucas A127 type alternator which is larger than a standard type ( I have 4 Cibies on the front + H4 headlamps ) and that went in fine Emma

That is the adjustment bar. I've often ended up reusing them, it puts the 'fixed' end on the other side of the alternator lug - but that's no matter.
If there is any part from there - I'd suggest it would be part 18 (12G1053 BRACKET, rear). The other differences can be made up with washers or sensible mounting.
It is important to make sure that the alternator pulley ends up dead in line with the other pulleys otherwise wear will be a major problem. Also IIRC, the fan belt is a different length

Which alternator do you have? If the standard Lucas 16/17/18 ACR,they come in left and right hand mountings. If you have the wrong hand, it will put the adjustment lug in the wrong place. You can convert them by undoing the screws that hold the body together and rotating the fore end.
When the alternator is on the mounts, the lug should be toward the block.

If you really want one of those, PM me your address and I'll see if I can help you out. £8 seems a lot of money for that to me
