with oil quality being the important factor in the life of our auto gearbox I am contemplating installing an oil pressure gauge. my 1996 spi has the red warning light connected to a sensor attached to the block. everything I have read says remove this, attach a T piece, refit the sensor and a new pipe for a mechanical gauge, or another sensor and a wire for an electrical gauge. firstly is everything the same for an auto as a manual. secondly should I go mechanical or electrical. lastly, thinking of positioning under the dash as it wont fit inside, so where is the best access from the engine bay to the underside without having to remove the dash thanks graham

You should be able to work the cable/pipe through underneath - the metalwork for the parcel shelf has big holes

Route the wires as you want. I ran mine along the side with the rest of the wires in the new harness I made up. Attachments:
