I'm puzzled; is the crankshaft in our automatics the same as in the manual Mini's? Is not the big end where the converter sits a bit longer than where the clutch sits?

I'll be much obliged. Thinking about using an 1100 crankshaft in my 1000 block to get a bit more bottom power so that the converter will do a bit more work when I put the throttle down to the floor. Use a 202 or 206 head and the 126726 camshaft to get more breath. Only question is then if the longer stroke does not hit the cealing of the box?

I've compared my 998 auto crank with my 998 manual one and cannot find any difference between the two.
Everything seems identical with a quick run over them with my steel rule, but I've not had my verneers on them to check accurately, although I'm fairly sure they are the same. Hope this helps.

Yes, thank you very much! When I collect the shaft I will bring my converter with me, so we can try it on.

Crankshafts are the same totally interchangeable.... ie you could make an 1100 mini by replacing the crank, rods and pistons and fitting them in to your 998 auto block.

I've got a 1098 manual crank in my 998 mini 30. There,s about 3mm clearance between the big-end bolts and the edge of the block when the crank is turned by hand. I haven't even checked the auto box yet. I,m sude it will be fine.( fingers crossed).

That's a relief, I thought I may have to attack the gearbox case with the Black & Decker powerfile.lol. No milling machine,s in my garage!.

Attachment Deletedy. You was right Martin, 3x of the 4 big end bolts were fouling, this was the worst (marked with blue marker) what I removed with the powerfile. The Arp bolts (overkill) but were a good price, have a taller profile, so probably made it worse. Attachments:

Please note until I can purchase the MRA-Minis URL I can be contacted on martin@kmprecisionengineering.com
The ARP whilst excellent quality will not fit the mains without some work,

I only used the big end bolts Martin, there was a risk i,d overtorqued the originals so I picked up the arp,s fairly cheap and used the other set of 1100 rods that came with my crank.
