the one on Maggi is just a normal standard universal gearknob attached with grub screws Merris is done a bit different as the selector shaft to attach it to is different and thinner. We had to modify the gearknob a bit to get it to fit

Ive changed mine, the thread is 10mm i think, which makes it a bit easier to change as more aftermarket gearknobs come in that fitment than for the manual imperial version. The only thing is you probably wont find any at the usual mini suppliers as they mainly cater for imperial fitting for the manual mini. I will see if I still have the email from Guessworks to confirm the thread size.

Ive seen lots of Aftermarket Gearknobs in Autos over the years so it can be done Only thing i think you need to remember is allow enough space under the Gearknob you choose to allow for the spring loaded Reverse sleeve to be lifted otherwise you cant go backwards ;D Apart from that i think its much like fitting an Aftermarket Gearknob to a manual Fortunately Boris Doesnt have the sleeve for reverse so in his case it would be easier again

As Merri's is an older type she doesn't have the reverse sleeve either but funnily enough we found hers a lot harder to fit than Maggi's

i think with a bit of effort you could get almost any gearknob to fit

Hiya Holly Thank you for your help so far Quick question where did you get your replacements from? as I have had a look on ebay and a couple of the mini sites and there isn't much choice

Maggi's came from a mini show (i think it was mini in the park 2006) and Merri's from the Classic Motor show 1999 ... I like to see stuff like that in real life first to see if its suitable so tend to look round the shows as there is also lots more choice usually

My Elfie originally had the early lever with just a knob that you had to lift for reverse. I fitted her with the later-type shift lever with the collar, as it's much easier to change gear, and added the T-handle at the same time.
Two of my manual cars have pool Ping Pong, which are really comfortable to use - I think they would fit easily enough to the auto shaft.

I'm not really in any rush but just something I would like to change and if I see one I like then I would but knowing me I probably won't be able to decide which one i want and then I'll leave it
