Hi! New Member here in Tucson Arizona USA. My wife just purchased a Rover Mini and I have the task of doing the first oil change. I am not sure how to loosen the tensioner pulley below the A/C to allow removal of the belt next to the oil filter canister. There is a horizontal bolt going thru the pulley #1 and a vertical bolt #2 with its head underneath. What does what? Thanks! Jon

Jon View AttachmentIt has been a while since I played on a Jap spec auto, however one of the bolts will loosen the pulley the other will adjust it to loosen the belt. HINT: whilst it is off take down the belt detail and get a spare replacement just for when you might need it.

Hi, I have a jap spec Rover mini with Air con as well, you need to loosen bolt #1 in your pic, and then turn bolt #2 in your pic clockwise (I think) to move the pulley up to loosen the belt and get as mentioned by Martin, get a second belt. I just replaced mine that was stretched, but it took me 6 months to find one. Here is where I found one in Australia. minisport.com.au/mini-rover-small-belt-for-alternator-from-aac-compressor

Congrats on the new Mini. I would take both belts down to Napa and have them measure them. That would be the easiest way in the states.
Are you going to the southwest Mini fest in Prescott? My car will be no where near ready.

Thanks, Niceboy. Got the filter changed! Mra-Minis: No sizes on the belts, strange. The short belt, alternator to a/c compressor is a Mitsuboshi (not Mitsubishi] REMF 1235T. The longer belt, is a Mitsuboshi MPMF 1350. According to the site japancarbelts.com they are 597mm and 889mm, respectively. I should be able to find something close. 69hcode: We are going to spend a week at Mini Meet West 2016 in San Diego CA. This is a classic Mini show and we will be driving the 850 miles in the Rover Mini or the '61 Morris Mini-Minor. The Prescott show is a BMW MINI show. Now on to replacing the brakes. Time for pads and discs!

My SPI engine came from Japan without a belt. I ran a measuring tape around the pulleys and went to the belt & bearing store to get one.

When I needed to change the belt on mine, I was able to get the number off the old belt, its K235. The new belt I got was branded "pitwork" and its part number is Ay160-VK23E. Hope that helps!

That is the turbine for air cooling. Belt comes off the crank, up around the free wheeling pulley, around the air turbine, and down over the alternator to return.
The air is forced down through the oil cooler, heads, and cylinder jugs to exit through the rear grill under the bumper.
The belt has to fit completely down into the pulleys so as not to fly off on one of the turns. too tight and it flies. too loose and it flies.
