When the car is running, is this entire area (where the band adjustments are) filled with oil? I'm looking for a place to put an oil temperature sensor, and it occurred to me that maybe the right front corner of the transmission would be suitable. I'd have to drill and tap the transmission cover. And make a protective plate for the sensor.

I would think at least the bottom 2" inches as that would put the oil level above the top part of the oil feed strainer in the back of the diff casing.

I can be contacted on martin@kmprecisionengineering.com When running the oil level will be just within the low to high level mark or just below the low level mark depending on how much oil you run in the first place, if you look at a transfer case with the dipstick fitted this should give you a good indication If only I knew how to add photos......

And for those that don't know the bands when released MUST sit back against the 3 bosses and a slight clearance of 1 to 2 mm between the lever and the domed nut before the band is moved must be created, any less and they can "tie up" other gears any slacker and they will whump and bang into gear.

Thanks. On this trip I spent so much time driving it and doing things with my grandchildren, including teaching them to drive it, that I put off the install of the oil seals and temp gauge til August.

I can be contacted on martin@kmprecisionengineering.com I wish my Grandad did cool things like that with us but he passed away before I was old enough to really get to know him. Getting round to it when better things are afoot
