Hi All,
I have just bought a 1994 Mini Mayfair 1275cc automatic. I plan to service it next weekend and so I looked at the dipstick today, to see what state the present oil is in. To my surprise, I discovered that my Mini has a Ford dipstick fitted.
Can I buy a replacement or could someone please give me the exact dimensions, of the original dipstick, including the positions of the maximum and minimum marks please?
Thanks in advance,
Ian

I will happily buy your spare dipstick, off you if you want to sell it. I think the idle issue is being caused by air getting in somewhere after the carburettor so I'll have a look next weekend. Cheers, Ian

Hi Ian, check this out on ebay 152174648868 brand new old stock 14 quid. A little trick to find air leaks is to spray easystart around potential leak area,s while running and listen to see if idle speed,s up. Auto mini,s are not for everyone and they are more than a little quirky in there operation. Does yours have electronic distributor. Keep us up to date with this issue. P.s i think you are on the right track with vacuum leak.

Hello again, Thanks for the auction link, I've just bought one! I'm not sure about the distributor, so I'll have a look when I remove the grille on Saturday. Thanks for the tip regarding the vacuum leak and for all of your help!
Cheers,
Ian

The new blue dipstick has arrived! I also bought some Motul 5000 10W40 MA2 semi synthetic oil, oil filter, O rings and a copper sump plug washer. Hopefully I'll have time for the oil change and I'll spend some time tracing the air leak so that the car idles more smoothly than it does at present.

The canister will give and never seal again.
