Can anyone tell me what the assembly sequence is for the oil filter components and which way round the seal that goes on the engine block goes please?

Do you mean the half moon seal on the cam chain end?

The one between the canister and the block. The old one appears to have a taper to it.

Thanks Martin. I worked it out for myself in the end. The retaining clip is missing, so everything fell into my oil drain pan.

I may be paying you a visit next year. I'm considering having my auto box rebuilt as it flares when changing from 3rd to 4th and, at 48,000 miles, it must be due for some attention.

Hi Ian,
Try draining your engine oil into a totally spotless clean drain tank, and then looking for bits, hopefully there won't be any however if there are then you need to get it fixed asap, to avoid further internal damage.

It never fails to surprise me what some people charge for things, and that people then go and pay for. These little clips are made for me by a company in Sheffield, 100 at a time, but only sold 6 or so in 18 months, which I don't mind because I can slowly work through the list of AP parts that are difficult to find.

I assume that the clip is not essential, as mine doesn't have one and everything is OK.

My clip is a piece of fairly stiff wire. I thought that was normal.

I assume that the clip is not essential, as mine doesn't have one and everything is OK. It is a coil of spring wire, it isn't essential, however it stops it all from falling apart during an oil change which can be a life saver if you don't know how it all goes together... Just one more thing I keep in stock....
