Hi Does anyone have a vacuum pipe diagram for a 92 Japanese spec 1000cc mayfair - carb and catalyst exhaust?.....There is a small pipe (looks like a vacuum pipe) on a canister by the brake booster not connected to anywhere, think its a carb float and fuel tank emissions control doohicky.
There are 2 ports in front of the carb dashpot - one goes to the distributer advance, the other goes to a T piece with one pipe going to an electric solenoid valve on the bulkhead (connects to a vacuum module that appears to work the choke lever a little bit and the other goes to another T that's in the big hose from the crankcase breather to the carb.
Car runs fine, have just noticed it while cleaning underneath and saw it dangling there.

Is that an aircon rad or oil cooler rad in front of servo Nick?.

Its the aircon rad, the plastic pipe was tucked down behind it, I just pulled it up to make it more noticeable in the picture.......

I have to say, i never knew they done a 998 with aircon, seen quite a few 1275 jap imports with it. Sorry cant answer your question, your best bet is to look up the later rover workshop manuals which are listed on here and check out the export model supplement.

It is supposed to go to the tank to let off fumes. I don't plan on attaching mine, as I have a pickup and would have to run a tube all the way back and tap into the filler in the bed area.

Yes, I have been told that the canister is in the wheel well, but it is not in the Japanese versions, it is in the engine compartment squeezed where he shows it. So this would be hooked up (I suppose) like the one in the wheel well.

I,ve got one of the wheel well jobbies, hanging up on mr garage wall, it came with the injection fuel lines i put on my motor. As my car is a 89 mini 30 i was,nt too fused about emission control, lol.

It is supposed to go to the tank to let off fumes. I don't plan on attaching mine, as I have a pickup and would have to run a tube all the way back and tap into the filler in the bed area. The other bigger rubber pipe on the canister runs along the bulkhead then goes into a plastic pipe that runs back to the tank, you can also see it T's off to another rubber pipe and that comes off the top of the carb float chamber.
I thought the little pipe would be a suck back into the inlet manifold...but there is no where for it to go.

No sorry, but i was under the impression they stopped making 998,s in automatic at the end of 1990 in the uk market, and i know they done everything different to keep the japs happy. Just saying a, ive not seen a 998 with aircon b,not seen a 998 automatic made after 1990 as tghey were all 1275 then. I,m sure loads will now come out of the woodwork to destroy my myth, lol.

Haha....I have a corner like that...currently I can see a rover P5headlamp lurking at the top of the pile .....and I haven't had a rover for 7yrs 92 was first registration in Japan so could easily be a 90...the vin plate in nz is attached at import based on Japanese details....... but there is a number stamped into the boot floor would that help determine age?
