Can anyone explain to me about the ap box. I saw a photo online and was curious as to how the engine oil and auto transmission fluid are kept separate. I know that the manuals share the oil between the engine and box,but how does it work in an auto. I'm a complete novice when it comes to auto minis,I had loads of manual versions when I was younger but these are a mystery to me.

They use the same oil. Make sure you use the right oil. I run 10w40. And change it often.

The auto engine uses a bigger and more powerful oil pump, it shift,s a lot more oil it splits and is pumped into both the gearbox and engine, whereas the manual is pumped into the engine and then drains down onto the gearbox by gravity. The auto gearbox is dependent on high pressure to apply hydraulic pressures on its bands and clutch plates. They are amazing considering they were designed 50 years ago.
