Car is sat in park or neutral on the drive and appears to be idling great. Give the accelerator a little press and the revs come up and again all seem great.
Press the accelerator anymore than halfway down and the engine revs drop right down and sometimes stalls. I havent tried driving it on the road as I'm still prepping it for an MOT.
Dashpot oil is ok, and at the moment the air filter is not fitted. I've got a new oil filter, oil change, plugs and air filter coming in a few weeks but it would be good to solve this issue first.

If your mini is fitted with the stock paper airfilter, it does not run properly without it! Put the old one back an see if that fixed it.

Air filter refitted and the same issue. I hooked up my timing gun as it's also got an rpm readout. Either pressing the pedal slowly down or quickly the result is the same and the engine won't go more than 3800-4000rpm. Timing advance sounds like a good shout to me as I think that comes into play 4-5000rpm? Can someone confirm the vac hose plumbing, I have the carbon canister and thermostatic switch which at this stage I would like to remain. In the photo I have the the carb going off to the left, dizzy down and obviously T'd to the carb. And the carbon canister off to the right. I've seen somewhere else that the carb is plumbed on it's own and the dizzy & carbon canister are T'd but that didn't make sense to me?

A non working vacuum advance rarely causes this problem. The vac piping seems fine to me. It still can be a ignition problem though. What type of ignition do you have? points or electronic?

Revs like a charm now, quite surprised that it even started and revved as high as it did in the first place! This is on a HIF38 that's been stood for 18months in case anyone else has similar issues.
