My 1275 auto engine has died, so I am looking at replacing it with a metro turbo engine . The chap that's selling it says the turbo has been replaced with hif44 carbs. How would that affect the engine ? would it be sluggish without the turbo or would it just be the same as the 1275 Mayfair engine that's in at the monent.

He said he skimmed the cylinder head to raise the compression. I don't know if that would be enough to compensate for the lack of turbo?
Should I steer clear or do you think it would be a suitable replacement?

Yeah it would work ok as long as youve got the compression ratio up, i take it your converting to manual (the dark side).

Possibly I would like keep the auto. How would you go about getting the compression ratio up though what would need to be done to achieve this?. I can't seem to see any engines and gearbox for sale that's in working condition. We just want our wee mini running again.

You cannot put an engine from a manual car onto an auto gearbox, you need to find an engine from an auto car. If you convert to a manual engine you'll obviously need a manual box, subframe, gearstick, clutch pedal etc etc

Yeah I know the engines are different and the auto subframe is bigger. I was having trouble finding a good auto engine so I was preparing for the worst a full Manuel conversation. I have now managed to track one down thats been restored and serviced so the car will have the new auto engine fitted in the next couple of weeks. So happy now☺

I got a like for like a 1275 auto engine. It has had the auto box serviced with new clutch plates and the engine its self has been serviced and is from a low mileage mini.
