Hello fellow mini enthusiasts, I’m new to the forum but not new to most Minis. I do need some advice from you auto transmission guys. 1.)Is the Sprag Clutch the same for a 998cc A+ Mini and a 1275cc A+ Mini 2.)If the Sprag clutch fails will it prevent any forward or reverse motion 3.)Does anyone have a new 998cc Slot Drive Oil Pump Part#GLP107 Thanks in advance for your help with these questions. Hi Frank, welcome to the forum. Where are you located?. The oil pump is the same for 998/1275, they generally are very long lasting although i have see one that came from my friend Joe,s 998 which had really bad wear on the central spindle bronze bush, his car had only done 18000 miles (1984 mini city). Martin(mra) has good used ,and tollerance checked oil pumps for sale at a good price. I know Gosnay,s have a brand new one on there storeroom shelf (been there for 20+ years) that they tried to sell me when i had engineering work there, but they were talking 265.00 pound and that might include vat at 20 percent . I beleive failure of the spragg clutch (one way clutch) will only cause you to lose 1st gear. Although total seizure is possible. Hope this helps. Terry.

Dear Terry, I am in located in the West Chester, Pennsylvania USA. Can you give me the address & phone number of the Gosnay's. I have two Mini automatic's in my shop that we have rebuilt the the engines & gearboxes. #1 998cc without park, will run & drive but has low oil PSI when you engage forward gears & reverse gears. Oil PSI increases when you raise the idle. We suspect oil pump is not providing enough oil. #2 1275cc With park, has good Oil PSi but will not drive under it's on power. We get slight forward & reverse motion but not enough to drive it. It does however shift when you put it up on jack stands. In this one the planetary had bad needle bearing. We however did not replace the sprag in it. Jpat has no new sprags. We might need one any idea on suppliers of that? Thanks for your consideration in this matter. I have two contacts in PA, one in Reading, they are good with the 1100/1300 lumps and have plenty of spares. If you check my post under A list of 1300 engines... you will get some idea what they have. I can PM their contact info if you want. Mark

Hi Frank, i did suspect you may be the other side of the pond, i,m sure there,s other forum member,s on here closer to you, obviously if your still stuck for parts, flag it up on here and we will see what we can do. Good luck with your hunt, tbh we are spoilt in the uk as automatics in mini,s are looked down upon and are discarded in favour of manual (stick shift). Terry.

But here, in N America, the automatics are very rare because they were scrapped decades ago. Most automatic parts come from barn find derelicts. My buddy is clearing out such items right now and has a good lot of spares.

The largest percentage of Austin Americas (Austin 1300's) sent to N. America were automatics. They were intended to be second cars for families and (politically incorrect by today's standards) wives and mothers who couldn't grasp the skills of shifting. The mindset of the majority of Americans was to drive their cars 5,000 miles plus (in some cases many more) between oil changes. So, after only 25,000 to 35,000 miles, they were scrapped for having bad transmissions. Some transmissions survived the north only because the car bodies fell apart first from all that salt on our roads. This is why we have so many crippled yet existing 1300 automatics.
Cheers, Mark
