Has anyone changed out the seal without pulling the engine? Mine leaks bad unless I leave it in drive. I dumped about a quart of oil in my work parking lot the other day. I might attempt doing it in the car, but I recently had shoulder surgery so I won't be pulling the engine out anytime soon. I might just have to let the Mini sit until the springtime when its warmer and I feel better.

You are limited with space. Obviously you havent the option on unscrewing the rod with engine in situ. Your best bet is "fish" it out, with a pointed rod and hammer. Gently punch the rubber seal, then hook it out. Have fun, lol.

Hi Please see the photos this may help. At least it shows what you are dealing with. Nothing is impossible but I would think trying to change that seal whilst it is still in the car will be challenging to say the least. The Mini is much like modern cars you can quite often just get a glimpse of what you want to change or just feel it but unless you have child like hands with the strength of 10 men the just remove all that's in the way. Unlike a modern you don't start by removing the bumper and under tray, try changing the nearside "halo" side light on an E90 BMW.....Ohhh I can feel my blood pressure rising bl*#dy stupid design. best of luck. Paul.

I'll give it a shot next weekend. As long as my shoulder is feeling up to it. I'm a fire truck mechanic and do a lot of blind work with my hands.
