I have a SPI engine from the block down to rebuild. I have no head and am looking into getting one. Any suggestions on a modified head? Who has changed the their cam on a 1275? Any suggestions? Anyone used a SW5? Does anyone know if the current SPI cam is any good? I could also use the cam from the 998. I want to run tall gears so I can cruise highway speeds but still have the torque to keep up with American traffic without struggling from a stop.

Hi, not too sure about 1275, but when i was researching which cam to put in my 1098 i was quickly steered away from the mg metro cam i had lined up. I went with the sw5 in the end, if you e-mail swiftune they will e-mail you the full data. They are also pretty good on emissions too. Whichever cam you use , remember your torque converter dictates everything, so try to go for something torquey. The spi cam should be ok. I also went for a tall final drive (from a 1275 sprite auto) hopefully the extra grunt from the 1098 will pull it.Mine wont be running for a few months yet. Watch this space. Terry.

My car is emissions exempt now due to age. I had to put a catalytic converter on it to pass last year. Not worried about it passing emissions anymore, but do want to run clean and efficient. I just figure since I have to pull the trans to rebuild it I might as well rebuild the whole thing with a new cam while I'm in there. The lump only has 42,000 km's on it. It's from a Japanese car. Also had A/C which I have all the parts for that as well.

Yeah, if your taking the lump out, you may as well do it properly. I would pay too much attenion to the mile,s as my friends 998 city started playing up on 18,000 miles and when he stripped her it had a lot of wear. An aircon mini sounds cool (pardon the pun).

I spent last summer running my heater due to overheating. I'm not in a hurry to get the A/C on, but it will be nice.

I'll be rebuilding the trans as well. That's how I got the lump. The trans was acting up. It came with a rebuild kit, clutches and bands. I used a couple seals so far that I will have to replace. It was also short one clutch disc for the forward clutch.
