For once I am here to say I fixed it. Not to ask how to do it. It took me about 10 minutes to do a job I've been dreading for over a month. Plenty of access to do the job. I had shoulder surgery in October so I've been putting it off and leaving it sit. The seal actually slide out on the shaft on its own. When it started leaking I had left it in drive when I parked it and temps dropped below freezing that night. When I started it I realized it was in gear(neutral safety switch was bad and bypassed--I know). I guess it stuck to the shaft and popped out.

Sounds like you had a lucky one there bud, there easy to do out of the car especially if you have the front cover off as there,s a small drain hole you can use to drift out. I dont fancy doing one in situ. Well done.

I can be contacted on martin@kmprecisionengineering.com
Simple enough to do in car, there is a spring clip that was fitted to stop the seal from blowing out... looks like a star washer, I looked at having them re made but the cost was a little prohibitive, to make any profit would have meant selling one for about £10.
