I have an acquaintance looking for answers to the compatibility of the rod changer to the remote changer. What changes need to be made to make it work? Everything to do with the Mini is the same as the 1100/1300 when it comes to the drives. Here is his text:
Actually I am restoring an MG 1100 and plan to built a little vintage rally tool. In order to improve usability as well as competitiveness, I am planning to install a 1275 engine and would like to use the attached mini gearbox with rod type gear shifting. I am aware of the different ratios of the final drive, but I am not sure whether I can install the rod type gear shifter into the ADO16?
Is this possible? Does the mounting fit? Are the positions of the gear shift lever etc. the same or do I need mayor changes?
Thanks and kind regards from Germany ! Hagen

I can be contacted on martin@kmprecisionengineering.com
Mark, I am not familiar with the 1100/1300 bodyshell and specifically the bracket holding the selector lever end to said bodyshell.... however 2 things spring to mind, 1) your friend would need 1) a new bracket to fix it the 1100/1300 shell or 2) to modify the shell to suit the selector and 3) he would need to use either metro or allegro linkage or at least to lengthen the existing Mini unit, I did something similar years ago using 2 lengths of tube, I just found some that was perfect and "cut & paste" them into place
